Alicante is a tourist destination of the first order and has many reasons to be visited. No matter how long you plan to spend there, you always have options for all tastes, such as a day trip in Alicante. Can you do something in one day? Of course, and one of the proposals is to visit the Island of Tabarca.
It is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community and one of the most visited destinations in Alicante, especially during the summer season. Besides the beaches or restaurants to enjoy the best of its gastronomy, there are other places that can be visited in a single day.
Day trip in Alicante: what to see in Tabarca
The church of San Pedro and San Pablo is the only one on the island. It is a construction that dates back to 1770 and inside is the well-known Virgen del Esclavo, although the patron saint of Tabarca is the Virgen del Carmen.
In the eastern part of the island is the Torre de San José, off the coast of Santa Pola. It was built in the eighteenth century and was originally a defensive tower. Over the centuries it had other uses and today remains one of the many symbols of Tabarca.
The Wall of Tabarca also dates back to the 18th century and today, although parts have been rebuilt, it does not look like centuries ago, but this is one of the must-see places on the island. There are the remains of a citadel that was built by the inhabitants of the island with the aim of protecting themselves from pirate attacks.
Do not miss other places such as the Casa del Gobernador, the lighthouse, the Gran Plaza, its different coves, the Cova Llop Mari, the Trancada Gate or the Marine Nature Reserve of the island of Tabarca.
